Coming Soon!! (Available spring of 2010)
We are currently working on five different projects at the preschool level. They are as follows:
- Letters and Sounds--This is an exciting way to teach letters and sounds. Current research shows that it is best to teach the letter names first, then the shapes, and then the sounds. Based on music (an original CD) and games, our letters and sounds curriculum follows this pattern and develops fluency and flexibility in letter/sound knowledge. After completing the program, children will be able to quickly and easily recognize and name each uppercase and lowercase letter, tell what sound it makes, and think of several words that begin with each letter. They will also be familiar with several common differences in fonts such as the computer "a" and the computer "g".
- Beginning Sight Words--Young children have a huge capacity to learn to recognize words. Through fun and engaging little books, children are introduced to 30 different high frequency words throughout the year. The books are simple, and the written vocabulary builds over time.
- Oral Language and Vocabulary --This curriculum features nine different units based on science themes. The science concepts are developed through exploration and experimentation, but the real focus of the units is oral language. Each unit includes two non-fiction books, related fiction stories for practice with listening comprehension and retelling, as well as many hands-on activities (science experiments, art, dramatic play, graphing, etc.), all geared toward practicing vocabulary and language structure.
- Math--Preschoolers need to develop a mental number line. This builds the foundation for mathematical understanding. Some important concepts include counting forwards and backwards, understanding that a number means a set of something, and the concept of more and less.
- Calendar--A sense of time is important for young children. This calendar program starts with time concepts that children relate to easily, such as morning, after lunch, and bedtime. Building from here, children gain an understanding of weeks, months, seasons, and years.
