development. At this stage, children are reading and writing about an
ever-widening array of topics, and they will encounter many, many new
words and more complex sentence structures.

- Use books as a beginning point for teaching vocabulary and sentence structure. Find vocabulary words and sentence structure modeled in the book. Point it out and make a child-friendly definition for it.
